Why NATE Certification Is Important for Heating Repair
What should you look for in technicians when you need to have effective heating repairs done for your home? There are a number of signs to watch for: many years of experience, good customer reviews, a wide variety of other comfort services, proper licensing, and parts and labor guarantees.
Raleigh Heating & Air offers all of these things when it comes to heating repair in Raleigh, NC. But we also offer NATE certified technicians, which is one of the best ways to tell that you will receive a quality job that will ensure your heating system continues to operate for many years after the repairs are finished. Give us a call the next time you encounter troubles with your home’s heater—or if you want to have a new heating installation.
What does NATE certification mean?
The letters NATE stand for “North American Technical Excellence.” NATE was founded in 1997 in Arlington, VA as a non-profit certification organization governed, owned, operated, supported, and developed by the HVAC industry. In fact, it is the only HVAC certification recognized throughout the industry.
For a heating and cooling technician to receive NATE certification, he or she must past a rigorous test in one or more specialty areas. The tests cover not only technical knowledge, but also customer service in the field. According to the official NATE website, these exams “represent HVACR topics pertinent to contractors, educators, manufacturers and utilities alike.” NATE recommends that service technicians have at least two years of experience and education before attempting to pass the exam.
How long is NATE certification good for?
This is an excellent question, since customers will want to know if a technician’s certification is still meaningful. As of the beginning of 2014, NATE certifications are good for two years after testing. When this period ends, a technician can maintain certification either through completing 16 hours of additional training in his or her specialty field within the following two years, or by retaking the exam. You can ask to see your technician’s current certification if you want proof that it is current.
